An unreleased song from Drake surfaced with an unlikely collaboration from none other than Rick Ross.
In the wake of Drake’s now-infamous feud with Meek Mill from the summer, it’s unlikely that the MMG leader would collaborate with Drizzy. However, fans get to hear what might have been with “Empire.”
The track “Empire” appears on the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League album, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. For All. But while the mixtape was just released, the verses are not that new. Drizzy’s verse is from 2008 song, “Cannon Ball,” which first appeared on Colin Munroe’s mixtape, Colin Munroe is the Unsung Hero. The Ross verse is snagged from 2008’s “Addicted” with Birdman, which appeared on their collaboration tape, The H.
It’s crazy what eight years can do. We can only hope that the two can eventually put aside their differences so we can get a full on collab for the fans — especially since they’re loving this one. “Drake murdered this,” read one comment on Soundcloud while another simply read: “Dope.”
The 12-track tape also brings together Lupe Fiasco and Future for a track titled “No Problems” while Anthony Hamilton and Rick Ross tackle “Icons.” It also includes contributions from Chris Brown, Wale, R. Kelly, T.I., Young Jeezy, Jeremih and more. It’s available for purchase here.
